This is the last time I will write to you as the author of “Code Your Future.”
For the past 20 editions, our mission was simple: help you break into tech and survive your first years as a developer. We focused on the fundamentals—testing, PRs, soft skills, and career pivoting.
But while we were optimizing for “Junior Developer” roles, the ground shifted beneath our feet.
The era of “learning to code” as a primary career moat is over.
If your goal is still to “get good at syntax” or “memorize React hooks,” you are preparing for a world that no longer exists. AI has commoditized the implementation layer of software engineering.
To continue writing “Code Your Future” would be a disservice to you. It would be training you for 2023.
So today, I am killing “Code Your Future.”
And I am inviting you to join me in what comes next.
The New Reality: The Full-Stack AI Engineer
We are witnessing the greatest leverage expansion in the history of our craft.
A single engineer, armed with the right agentic workflows and architectural understanding, can now do the work of a 2015 engineering team.
The Old Stack: Frontend, Backend, Database, DevOps.
The New Stack: Models, Context, RAG, Agents, Evals, plus the Old Stack.
The market doesn’t need more “React Developers.” It is screaming for Full-Stack AI Engineers—builders who can look at a business problem and orchestrate a fleet of models and systems to solve it.
We aren’t just writing code anymore. We are managing intelligence.
The Pivot
Effective immediately, this newsletter is rebranding to “The Full-Stack AI Engineer.”
We are shifting our gaze upstream.
We are moving from “How do I get a job?” to “How do I lead the industry?” We are moving from “How do I write a test?” to “How do I build an eval pipeline for a multi-agent system?”
